X-ray

Industrial Radiography offers manufacturers and maintenance and inspection firms an ability to perform
detailed inspection to find internal flaws or defects in materials without having to destroy or alter the
material. The advantage of using an x-ray machine is that a stable source of directed radiation can be
produced to guarantee effective penetration of radiation so that an image and permanent record of the
flaw is produced.

The basic principles of the X-Ray machine remain the same since its discovery by Wilhelm Conrad
Roentgen 1895: the displacement of an electron from a filament guided in a desired direction. The
advancement of electrical circuitry since 1895 has improved the effectiveness in directing and producing
the required Kilovolts (kV) and Milliamperes (mA) that produce the radiation beam.

There are three basic x-ray system configurations that are used in Industrial Radiography: Self-Rectified
(SR), Constant Potential (CP) and High Frequency (HF). Each offer advantages for specific applications
and Kodiak Q.C. is well versed to offer the most suitable system for the customer’s application. Various
manufacturers, Andrex, Asenware, Comet, Gulmay, Fedrex, ICM, Muller, Philips, Sperry, Lorad have
developed improvements or offered their unique design to the field of X-ray technology. Kodiak Q.C. is
familiar with many of these manufacturers’ models and offers a wide variety of reconditioned and
guaranteed x-ray systems.

The x ray machine inserts where the filament is found are either glass or ceramic and have a finite life
span. Properly maintained and cared for the x-ray machine filament may last many years. Replacement
of the x ray insert or in fact any other internal components in an x ray machine must be performed by
knowledgeable, trained, and experienced technicians. Kodiak Q.C. offers these services and carries a
large inventory of components to facilitate repair.

As mentioned, the advancement of electronic circuitry has improved the efficiency of controlling an X-
ray beam from the insert but in doing so has made the electronic controlling apparatus (better known as
the control panel) of the X-ray tube far more complicated to repair. Original control panel circuity were
basic electromechanical circuits which allowed much easier identification of failed components. Today’s
systems are far more complicated in that on-board PCU are used and the control apparatus is primarily
an assembly of circuit boards. Kodiak Q.C. has years of experience working with multiple generations of
control panels thus the ability of offering clients proven expertise to deal with the various designs of
control panels on the market.

Regardless of the model of system a customer may have: SR, CP or HF, Kodiak Q.C. has the ability to
offer service and maintenance on these systems. Our inventory of components and X-ray Systems allows
Kodiak Q.C. to offer comparable systems thus allowing our customers to be back in operation with the
minimum of delay.
